October Half Term Halloween

Almost half-term already… how did that happen?! If you’re looking for ways to entertain the kids, we’ve pulled together a listing of holiday camps and activities that are going on in the area. The listing is divided into half-term activities that you generally do together as a family, and drop-off camps and workshops which range from a couple of hours to a full day. We’re still in the process of adding things as and when we hear about them, so if you know of any more please do get in touch and let us know. FAMILY ACTIVITIES

 

Fulham Palace

27th October, 11.00am-3.00pm: Family Fun Day: Astonishing Archaeology at Fulham Palace. Discover different eras at the site, meet Romans who used to live there and find out about Roman medicine, agriculture and people enslaved by the Romans. With tours, trails, crafts and real artefact handling sessions, this family fun day is all about discovering what’s hidden beneath our feet, without all the digging! Free; no booking necessary; suitable for 3+yrs.

Ham House

1st October to 3rd November, 10.00am-5.00pm: Autumn Animal Trail & Workshops at Ham House. In the gardens, the animals are gathering in their harvests to help them prepare for winter. Can you help them find their food? Join in this tactile trail to match up the animals with their favourite foods. Suitable for all ages with sensory elements for younger ones while older children learn how they can help British wildlife prepare for winter. Normal admission applies, plus trails are £2.00 each. 26th October to 3rd November: Autumn Animal Workshops: Create a bird feeder to help wildlife around you prepare for the winter with a guided workshop at 12.00pm, 1.00pm and 2.00pm each day (subject to availability). Workshops are £3.00 per child. During half-term week there is also Spooky Storytelling in the back parlour at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2:30pm, and Family Ghost Tours in the evening, suitable for 7+yrs (£15.00 per person).

Hampton Court Palace

26th October to 3rd November, 11.00am-4.00pm: Elizabeth I & Her Spymasters at Hampton Court Palace in East Molesey. Become a spy master for Queen Elizabeth! Elizabeth I’s court has become a dangerous place and the Queen is not sure who to trust. Become a spy, meet the suspects in her court and listen in on secret conversations. Can you help the queen to keep an eye on her wayward courtiers? Collect your special spy masters character card from the Information Centre with details of all the activities. Drop in activities throughout the day; included in normal admission.  There will also be performances on the life of Elizabeth I by Rose Theatre Kingston’s Young Company from Monday to Friday.

Kew Gardens

19th October to 3rd November, 10.30am-3.30pm: Autumn Antics at Kew Gardens. An array of fun-filled workshops, performances and storytelling this autumn half term. There is plenty for families to enjoy. Discover the fascinating tales, legends and people behind plant names in a programme of storytelling with storyteller Rachel Rose Reid. Kids will have the chance to get on stage with the School of Comedy and learn how to entertain a crowd, improvisation techniques and tips on how to write hilarious jokes. They can delve into the world of fungi names through interactive sessions and follow specially made trails to find fungi in the Gardens. Normal admission applies. London Museum Of Water And Steam

19th to 27th October, 10.00am-4.00pm: Spooky Cats at the London Museum Of Water & Steam, Green Dragon Lane in Brentford. Join the Museum this Halloween for a spooky kitty time. Many years ago, eight mysterious cats lived at the Steam Museum, playing with the waterworks employees. Listen to a cat story every weekday at 11.00am, make your own cat craft, explore the Splash Cat trail, and find the Museum’s hidden cats. Normal entry fees apply. Plus KIDS GO FREE and adults only £10.00 with Barnes Mums! (See our membership page for details.) Children in Halloween costume also go FREE all week.

London Wetland Centre

19th October to 3rd November, 10.30am-3.00pm: Wildlife Researchers at the London Wetland Centre, Queen Elizabeth’s Walk in Barnes. Help the experts by researching the wildlife that lives on site. Use your log book to guide you to the best spots to search for seasonal wildlife, or join in other activities… Pond Dipping: search for the animals that live beneath the surface of our ponds (10.30am & 2.00pm). Migration Watch: gaze through a pair of binoculars to help find some winter visitors – you’ll be amazed by how some of these birds get to our wetlands (1.00pm). Wild Play: Make your own Leaf Hero and watch them soar to the ground in their handmade leaf parachute (11.15am & 2.45pm). Normal admission applies.

Museum Of Richmond

29th October to 1st November, 10.00am-12.00pm: Graveyard Explorer Workshops at the Museum Of Richmond, Whittaker Avenue in Richmond. Explore the stories behind the names on the memorials and headstones in St Mary Magdalene’s Church and enjoy a craft at the Museum. For ages 5-11yrs. £5.50 per child (adults free). Booking essential and can be done online.

Osterley Park

19th to 27th October, 11.00am-4.00pm: Halloween Pumpkin Festival at Osterley Park & House, Jersey Road in Isleworth. Follow the trail and carve your own pumpkin to take home. Discover how the animals of Osterley get ready for winter, and carve your own pumpkin to take home. Follow the trail and complete the activities to find the pumpkins. Along the way take a break to toast some marshmallows and enjoy a hot drink from the trailer. Normal admission charges apply plus trail costs £4.00 (includes pumpkin).

 

DROP OFF CAMPS

 

Barnes Cricket Club

For children aged 6 to 15 years.

These camps take place at Barnes Cricket Club, Lonsdale Road in Barnes. Children will enjoy five action-packed days of cricket delivered by a team of club coaches and brilliant team of qualified assistants. Boys and girls of all abilities welcome.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 10.00am-3.00pm. The cost is £35.00 per day, with a discount available for booking the whole week. You can download a registration form from their website.

Camp Beaumont

For children from 3 to 16 years old.

These camps take place at Christ’s School, Queen’s Road in Richmond. They offer the highest standards of care and peace of mind that children will have the time of their life, trying new activities and making new friends.

The camps take place weekdays between 28th October – 1st November from 8.30am-4.30/5.30pm with the option to extend from 8.00am-6.00pm. The daily cost is £48.00, with a discount available for booking three days or more. You can book via their website.

Camp England

For children from 5 to 15 years old.

These camps are held at The German School, Petersham Road in Richmond, NPL Tennis Club, Queens Road in Teddington and at Hampton School, Hanworth Road in Hampton. At Teddington, children can choose from tennis or multi-sports camps with lots of activities to choose from, and at Richmond they can choose gymnastics or multi-sports. At Hampton, there are tennis camps to give children the opportunity to make lots of friends and make rapid progress with their game.

The camps take place weekdays between 28th October – 1st November (Hampton) and 21st October – 1st November (Richmond & Teddington), from 10.00am-4.00pm (tennis & gymnastics) or 8.30am-4.30pm (multi-sports). Compass Technology Club

For children aged 9. To 13 years.

This camp is held at Compass Learning Club, White Hart Lane in Barnes. Children will be designing, creating and coding in a halloween robotics camp.

The camp takes place between 23rd – 25th October, from 10.00am-1.00pm. The camp costs £240.00 for all three days. You can book by emailing info@compasslearningclub.co.uk. 

Elizabeth Samuels Drama

For children aged 4 to 14 years.

These ‘shows in a week’ take place at Orleans Park Secondary School, Richmond Road in Twickenham. Children aged 4-11yrs will rehearse and perform The Jungle Book, whilst children aged 11-14yrs will rehearse and perform Sherlock Holmes. Both shows use original scripts which provide every child with a role and the chance to shine on stage.

The ‘shows in a week’ take place from 28th October – 1st November (4-11yrs) or 29th October – 2nd November (11-14yrs), from 9.00am-3.30pm and for an evening performance on the final day. The cost for all five days is £165.00. You can book online.

Excel Sports

For children aged 4 to 12 years.

These camps take place at Kings House Sports Ground, Riverside Drive in Chiswick (just the other side of Chiswick Bridge). They offer wonderful, safe, action-packed multi-sports camps, with superb tuition delivered by professional sports coaches who are also great fun! Sports include tennis, football, netball, cricket, rounders, athletics, dodgeball and more.

The camps take place between 21st October – 1st November, from 9.00am-3.00pm with half day options available from 9.00-11.30am or 12.30-3.00pm. The daily cost is £35.00 with a discount available for booking a whole week; half-days cost £18.00. You can book via their website.

Fit For Sport

For children aged 4 to 12 years.

These camps takes place at Barnes Primary School, Cross Street in Barnes, and Sheen Mount Primary School in West Temple Sheen. They are a great way for children to keep active, have fun, make new friends, try something new and take part in a whole range of activities and sports.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 9.30am-4.30pm with the option to extend from 8.30am-5.30pm (East Sheen) or 8.00am-6.00pm (Barnes), and with a half day option for younger children from 9.30am-1.00pm. The basic daily cost is £32.50-£37.50 (£24.50-£28.50 for a half-day), depending on location. You can book via their website.

KOOSA Kids

For children aged 4 to 13 years.

These camps take place at Orleans Park School, Richmond Road in Twickenham; Teddington Sports Centre, Broom Road in Teddington; Whitton Sports Centre, Percy Road in Whitton; St Mary’s Primary School in Hampton; and Shene Sports Centre, Park Avenue in East Sheen. Children will enjoy witches cauldrons, paper pumpkins, potion painting, haunted hot wheels and much more in a week full of Spooktacular Fun.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 10.00am-4.00pm, with the option to extend from 8.15am-6.00pm. The basic daily cost is £21.50, with a discount available for booking the whole week. If you have three children, the 3rd child goes absolutely free! The Little Gym Chiswick

For children aged 3 to 12 years.

These camps take place at The Little Gym, Hartington Road in Chiswick (just off the A316). They include super quest camps for 3-8yrs, full of exciting creative missions that will exercise muscle, imaginations and cooperation skills; fun skill thrill camps for 6-12yrs that will take your child’s gymnastic skills to the next level; as well as dance camps (3-12yrs) and karate camps (4-12yrs). There is a halloween party camp on the 31st.

The camps take place between 21st – 31st October, from 9.00am-12.00pm/9.30am-12.30pm or 1.30-4.30pm, with the option to extend to include lunch or to stay for the whole day during the first week. The Little Gym Hampton & Teddington

For children aged 3 to 12 years.

These camps take place at The Little Gym, High Street in Hampton Hill. They include super quest camps for 3-8yrs, full of exciting creative missions that will exercise muscle, imaginations and cooperation skills; and fun skill thrill camps for 5-12yrs that will take your child’s gymnastic skills to the next level.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 9.30am-12.30pm (3-8yrs) and from 1.30-4.30pm (5-12yrs), with the option to extend to include lunch, or to stay for the whole day. The cost is £36.00 for non-members or £32.00 for members. To book, call 020 8977 0099.

London Golf

For children aged 5 to 14 years.

These camps are based at Richmond Park Golf Club in Roehampton. Children will enjoy the perfect golfing experience whether they’re a complete beginner, want to get back into the swing of things, or want to improve their game. Pros will take them through group practice as well offering one-to-one guidance on how to be the next Tiger!

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 9.00am-3.00pm with half-day options available from 9.00am-12.00pm or 12.00-3.00pm. The daily cost is £55.00 (£30.00 for half a day). You can book by contacting Gary or Glenn.

London Welsh Rugby

For children aged 6 to 12 years.

These camps take place at London Welsh Rugby Club in Old Deer Park, Kew Road in Richmond. Children will enjoy coaching which focuses on catching & passing, decision making, support & evasion, aerial catching, skill development and tackle technique – through the use of games and game scenarios making it a thoroughly fun experience. It is suitable for all, whether an experienced player or completely new to the game.

The camps take place between 29th – 31st October, from 9.00am-3.00pm. They cost £40.00 per days with a discount available for booking all three days. You can book online.

Mother Nature Science

For children aged 5 to 12 years old.

These camps take place at The Queen’s School, Cumberland Road in Kew. Children will enjoy five days of spooky Halloween-themed activities, including a great mixture of exciting demonstrations, hands-on experiments, team games and fun quizzes across chemistry, biology and physics. Over the week your child will do 30+ science activities and demonstrations.

The camps take place between 21st October – 1st November, from 9.00am-3.30pm, with the option to extend from 8.30am-4.00pm. The basic daily cost is £70.00, or £285.00 for the week (limited availability for daily places). You can book online or by calling 020 8863 8832.

NS Sports

For children aged 4 to 11 years.

These camps take place at East Sheen Primary School, Upper Richmond Road West in East Sheen. Children can choose form a multi-activity camp including two sports sessions, an outdoor events session, arts and crafts, indoor and a free choice play session; or a football-only camp. For October half-term there is a halloween theme.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 9.45am-4.15pm, with the option to extend from 8.00am-6.00pm. The basic daily cost is £24.00, with a discount available for booking the whole week. You can book online.

Playball

For children aged 3 to 9 years.

These camps take place at Olympus Gym & Squash Club, Kew Foot Road in Richmond, and at Stanley Primary School, Strathmore Road in Teddington. They are filled with fantastic age-specific sports games, skills and drills, including wildly creative warm ups, sport skill sessions, team building activities and games.

The camps take place on the 28th & 29th October (Richmond) and 31st October (Teddington), from 10.00am-1.00pm. The daily cost is £25.00, with siblings discount available. You can book via their website.

Rocks Lane Barnes

For children aged 3 to 14 years.

These camps take place at Rocks Lane Multi-Sport Centre in Barnes. Rocks Lane prides itself on its excellent coaching, all weather facilities, and a diverse range of sporting opportunities; and there are a range of tennis, football, netball and multi-sports camps on offer for all ages and abilities.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, at various times ranging from 2-5 hours long. Rocks Lane operates a ‘holiday credits’ scheme whereby you purchase credits up front then call to book onto a specific course. Rosslyn Park Rugby Club

For children aged 7 to 16 years.

These camps take place at Rosslyn Park Rugby Club, Priory lane in Roehampton. Rugby camps at the Rock, are welcome to all, regardless of age, ablitiy or size. They have a mixture of 1st team coaches and players delivering the sessions, which challenge the children in a fun and safe environment covering break down, catch & pass, contact skills, tackle technique, evasion skills, and game understanding.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 9.30am-3.30pm, with the option to extend from 8.00am-4.30pm. You have to book a minimum of 2 days, which costs £100.00, with the daily cost reducing the more days you book. You can book online.

Sheen Parks Tennis

For children aged 3 to 14 years.

These three=day camps take place at Sheen Common in East Sheen; Westerly Ware, off Kew Green, and at Cambridge Gardens, Clevedon Road in East Twickenham. These fun packed holiday camps are for children of all abilities to help develop essential tennis skills.

The camps take place over three days between 28th October – 1st November, with half hour sessions for 3-4yrs, and 3hr sessions for 5-14yrs. Tots camps cost £27.00 for all three days, mini/junior camps cost £91.50 for all three days. You can book online.

Spin Into Tennis

For children from 3 to 18 years.

These camps take place at Kings House Sports Ground, Riverside Drive in Chiswick (just the other side of Chiswick Bridge). Children will be able to develop their tennis skills, whether they play for fun, fitness or want to compete at a higher level.

Tennis Life

For children from 4 to 18 years old.

These camps take place at Sheen Lawn Tennis & Squash Club, Parklands Close (off Fife Road) in East Sheen. There will be lots of coaching, fun and competition in the lovely setting of Sheen Tennis Club.

Thames Young Mariners Adventure Zone

For children from 6 to 16 years.

These camps take place at Thames Young Mariners, Riverside Drive in Ham. There are Young Explorers camps for 6/7yrs focussing on different team challenges through the week, and Multi-Activity camps for 8-13yrs (split into juniors and seniors), with activities such as archery, climbing, team tasks and woodland skills. Sailing, paddleboarding, canoeing and kayaking courses are also available.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 9.30am-4.30pm. The Young Explorers camps are £47.00 per day; the Multi-Activity camps are £94.00 for two days or £141.00 for three days (see online for other prices). You can book online.

Top Tennis

For children aged 3 to 14 years.

These camps take place at Barnes Tennis Club, Lonsdale Road in Barnes. Skills, drills, technique, match-play and games are all included, to ensure an all-round tennis education.

The camps take place between 21st – 25th October, with different time slots for different age groups: 3-7yrs 9.00-11.00pm; 8-10yrs 11.00am-1.00pm; 10-14yrs 1.00-3.00pm. The cost is £20.00 per day, with a discount available for booking the whole week. You can book online.

Tree House Learning

For children aged 3 to 7+ years.

These camps take place at Ham Common Woods. Children will enjoy forest school fun, including activities such as building forts, dens, scavenger hunts, stories, woodland craft, bug hunting, rope swings, tools and group games.

The camps take place between 28th – 31st October, from 10.00am-3.00pm. The daily cost is £35.00. You can book online.

Wild Learning

For children aged 5 to 11 years.

These camps takes place on Sheen Common in East Sheen. Find your way through the woods to the base camp, maybe stopping on the way to play hide and seek in the oak clearing, or Ninja Frisbee on the meadow before den building, rope swinging or crafts at main camp.

The camps take place on selected dates between 21st – 31st October, from 10.00am-4.00pm. The daily cost is £46.00. You can book online.

Wurkshop

For children aged 7+ years.

These workshops take place at Wurkshop, The Mews behind 46-52 Church Road in Barnes. With the theme of halloween, there will be an abundance of cobwebs to draw, pumpkins to carve, spell books to bind, lanterns to weave and bones to print. Add to this another amazing and inspirational Write, Illustrate, Publish creative writing and art course and you have a packed two weeks of incredible craft for all. Wurkshop is also running a family pumpkin carving workshop on the 26th October.

The workshops take place between 21st October – 2nd November, starting at 10.00am and lasting 3.5-5hrs depending on the workshop. Some workshops run over two days. They cost £60.00-£95.00 per day, or the family pumpkin carving workshop costs £20.00. You can book online.
