Christmas Fairs, Lights & Markets

Here’s our round up of all the Christmas fairs, lights and markets in the area. Don’t forget to also check out our guide to family days out. Saturday 17th November

  • – 10.00am-3.00pm: St Mary’s Christmas Fair, Kitson Hall
  • Kitson Road, Barnes SW13: Christmas gifts and cards, jewellery, tombola, garden gifts and plants, homemade cakes and preserves, bric-a-brac, toys, raffle & silent auction, all day cafe. Supporting Barnes Green Day Centre, FiSH, Castelnau Community Centre, Glass Door and Under Tree Schools.
  • – 10.00am: Christmas Market, OSO Arts Centre
  • Station Road (entrance by the pond), Barnes SW13: The perfect place to do some Christmas shopping. Stalls representing local businesses will be selling a wealth of seasonal goodies and Christmas gifts. The OSO café will also be serving food, drinks and festive treats, so drop by during the day and enjoy. Free entry.
  • – 11.00am-3.00pm: Ibstock Christmas Fair, Ibstock Place School
  • Clarence Lane, Roehampton SW15: Ibstock’s annual Festive Fair is a fabulous mix of stalls, food and drink, with amusements for the children and easy parking in the neighbouring streets. Entry £2.00 per person.

Thursday 22nd November

  • – 11.00am-6.30pm: Christmas Lights Switch On & Festivities, Richmond Town Centre
  • Various locations, Richmond TW9/10: Festivities begin just before lunchtime, with a Frost Fair Christmas Market at Richmond Riverside selling locally-made and sustainably sourced crafts, gifts and food. Radio Jackie and a merry-go-round on Whittaker Avenue will add to the atmosphere. Take the little ones to Santa’s Grotto in the magical garden of the Vineyard Community Centre, The Vineyard TW10, from 4.00-6.00pm (£2.50 including a gift, face painting and other festive activities). All proceeds go towards helping the homeless. Led by festive minstrels and Santa, children from St Richard’s School and the Old Vicarage School will parade from 5.00pm from the Bingham hotel to George Street via Richmond Riverside singing seasonal songs and picking up a marching band along the way. The main stage will be situated in George Street (close to Tesco Metro and Russell & Bromley) and the area will be a hive of festive activity from 5.00-6.30pm. Lights will be switched on by a SPECIAL CELEBRITY at around 6.15pm. The event will close with a spectacular firework display on Richmond Green at around 6.30pm.

Saturday 24th November

  • – 11.00am-3.00pm: Advent Fair, Barnes Primary School
  • Cross Street, Barnes SW13: Barnes Primary School’s annual kick-start to the festive seasons. BBQ, bar, mulled wine and mince pies. Attractions, activities, Santa’s Grotto, games, tombola, stalls.. more fun Christmas inspired activities than you can shake a cracker at! Entry £2.00 per adult; £1.00 per child.
  • – 11.00am-2.30pm: Christmas Market & Santa’s Grotto: Barn Church
  • Atwood Avenue, Kew TW9: Enjoy the Christmas Market with craft activities, food & wine, stall magician, music & carols, café, mulled wine, raffle, toy stall entertainer. Entry £1.00 per person (children free).

Tuesday 4th December

  • – 5.00-8.00pm: White Hart Lane Christmas Charity Night, Barnes
  • White Hart Lane, Barnes SW13: Local businesses will help you get into the Christmas spirit. There’s lots for families this year with live music and choirs, and Santa will make a special appearance with gifts for the children. All proceeds will go the the Castelnau Community Centre.

Friday 7th December

  • – 3.00-8.00pm: Christmas Festival, Barnes
  • Various locations, Barnes SW13: This year the BCA has joined forces with The OSO Arts Centre this year to organise an expanded Christmas gifts Fair with stalls based inside and outside The OSO Arts Centre which will be open from 3.00-8.00pm. There will also be mulled wine, a traditional BBQ and roasted chestnuts to enjoy as you browse through the gifts on offer. Local musical groups will be performing at the following locations through the evening: St Mary’s Handbell Ringers outside M&S on Barnes High Street from 6.00pm; Castelnau Chorale outside Rose House from 6.00-7.00pm; Barnes Community Choir and the Olympic Choir from 6.30pm outside the Olympic Studios; and Barnes Concert Band will perform Christmas carols in The Sun Inn yard from 7.00pm. Father Christmas will start his evening at The Castelnau Community Centre at 4.30pm – he will leave there at 5.00pm and make his way around Barnes to The OSO Arts Centre where you can visit him in his grotto until 8.00pm. Further details about the Barnes Christmas Festival will be included in a flier enclosed with your December copy of Prospect.
  • – 5.00-8.00pm: Kew Sparkle, Kew Village
  • Various locations, Kew Village TW9: A firm date in many local family diaries, Kew Sparkle brings together local schools, local volunteers, local stallholders and Kew residents and children to set the scene for the festive season. Dozens of school children from local primary schools will be showing off their singing and instrumental talents. Shelle Luscombe will later lead the Christmas carol Sing-a-Long.There will be entertainment for all – carousels and teacup rides for the young ones, rifle range and hammer for the older children. Santa’s Grotto, a firm favourite, will be there too.There will be many stalls, with an amazing array of Christmas gifts, homemade food and tantalising mulled wine and mince pies.Local traders will also be involved – arranging their own fun events and keeping their doors open late into the evening.This year Kew Sparkle will be raising funds for The Mulberry Centre, a charity which provides support and information for anyone affected by cancer, offering practical ways of enhancing physical, psychological and emotional well-being.

Sunday 9th December

  • – 11.00am-5.00pm: St Margaret’s Christmas Fair
  • Crown Road, St Margaret’s TW1: The annual St Margarets Christmas Fair returns for a day full of festive fun. Shopping, food, drink and plenty of amazing live music will fill Crown Road once again. Be sure to join in on this magical day and get into the festive spirit.

Friday 14th December

  • – 3.15-5.15pm: Christmas Fair, Lowther Primary School
  • Stillingfleet Road, Barnes SW13: Lowther Primary School’s annual family Christmas fair returns with abundant festivities. Hot dogs, hot drinks, prosecco, mulled wine, mince pies, popcorn & even sweet jars. Attractions including Christmas carols; Santa’s Grotto; teddy, wine & chocolate tombola; raffle; face painting; hair braiding; Christmas craft making and many more stalls… a magical family afternoon to help kick start the festive season.
